Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Theta Iota Omega Chapter
Suffolk-Nassau Counties, Long Island, New York

Welcome!
As President of Long Island, New York’s premier chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., I am happy to welcome you to our web page. Theta Iota Omega is proud of its 45 year history of “Service to All Mankind,” and specifically service to the communities of Nassau and Suffolk Counties. We celebrated our 45th Anniversary on October 29, 2011 and were able to do so acknowledging many of our charter members who are still active in our chapter. Our current chapter membership boast more than 130 women from different professional walks of life. All members in our graduate chapter have successfully completed degree work beyond their undergraduate studies. This alone reflects the goals of our founders who, on the campus of Howard University, wanted to begin an organization of professional women who constantly strive for excellence in all they do.
Theta Iota Omega Chapter accomplished a great deal in the 2011 calendar year. We awarded more than $12,000 in academic and cultural arts scholarships to high school seniors in conjunction with the Ivy Foundation of Suffolk-Nassau Counties. We honored Tuskegee Airman Julius Freeman at the North Atlantic Region “Salute to Excellence” breakfast. We accepted the call for training and regularly attended conferences that offered the opportunity to grow in the area of leadership. We continued to support the international theme of our President Carolyn House Stewart, that is, “Global Leadership Through Timeless Service.” This theme is reflected in our local programs that have included partnerships with Madonna Heights, Bethany House, South Huntington UFSD, Roosevelt/Freeport Food Pantry, The Long Island Links, Eastern Shore Chapter of the Links, Jack & Jill, Coalition of 100 Black Women and the Pan Hellenic Council to name a few. Our programs continue to be the heart of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
Please enjoy your journey through our web page. This journey offers you insight into our chapter’s uniqueness and commitment to serve others. After you complete this initial journey, let me invite you to visit our face book page and get an up to date view of Theta Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. as events occur.
